Cheap Chinese fake bikes haunt Bajaj Auto
NEW DELHI,(April 20, 2008). Cheap Chinese fakes continue to haunt India's largest bike exporter Bajaj Auto. These fakes are riding the brand equity of Bajaj's models in foreign markets like Latin America and Middle East, by illegally sporting designs and shapes of its bikes.
Bajaj, which gets more than 20% of its bike sales from overseas markets, has taken up the matter with respective regulatory authorities in various countries. Earlier, in 2006, the company had managed to thwart similar sales of fake Chinese products in the Sri Lankan market. But its growing sales in new regions are only adding to the problem.
"We have been facing the problem from Chinese fakes in various overseas markets and are seeking details from our partners to counter them," a senior company official told TOI.
